COURSE DESCRIPTION
Bold full-bodied script is one of the most popular and versatile styles of hand-lettering. Its eye-catching cursive forms are perfect for adding warmth and personality to both personal pieces and commercial projects—including logos, brand identities, advertisements, packaging, and more. Yet, hefty script shapes and connecting strokes can be tricky to draw successfully. In this fun and informative online workshop, you'll learn how to skillfully construct and compose attention-getting script lettering. I'll guide you through each step of the creative process—from articulating the details of curvy contours, to creating head-turning hand-lettered layouts. Packed with loads of insightful information, this comprehensive class is great for letterers, designers, illustrators, and artists of all skills levels who want make confident and curvaceous script letterforms with style.
Students will begin by gaining a firm foundation in the roots of connecting cursive letters. We’ll review the common structures of lowercase forms and investigate various ways to join them, before delving into their uppercase counterparts. After understanding how to properly construct heavyweight script letters, you’ll learn to size and space them effectively. Finally, we’ll explore strategies for creating complex compositions, and modifying outlines to provide even more personality. Whether you’re a seasoned pro, aspiring letterer, or casual enthusiast, you’ll learn hands-on methods to maximize script in a variety of applications.
Sketch along with me as I explain these concepts and many more during an in-depth instructional presentation and interactive drawing demonstration. You'll also receive an illustrated PDF guidebook and workbook filled with detailed info and helpful diagrams for extra guidance.

I'll give lettering demonstrations on an iPad using Procreate, but you can also use these tools if you want to draw along with me:
• pencils and a pencil sharpener
• an eraser
• tracing paper
• grid/graph paper
• a ruler
• a computer or other electronic device, a reliable internet connection, plus a Zoom account to join the live online meeting and to watch the video recording
• access to a printer if you want to refer to a hard copy of the PDF guidebook
• a copy of my Lettering Manual is strongly recommended
• Although I'll be drawing in Procreate on an iPad, the limited timeframe will not allow for hardware or software instruction.
